CHAMPAGNE TOUR DURATION: 4 hours
Meet your local guide at 9.00 am in front of the tourist office of Reims centre train station and start the day with the discovery of Reims city centre in the comfort of our upmarket minivan.
Drive by “Notre Dame de Reims”, one of the first monuments to be registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover famous places in Reims such as the “Porte de Mars”, a 2000-year-old arch which is the last remaining Roman gate of the city. Absorb the historical atmosphere of the city, home of the coronation of the kings of France.
No tour of Reims is complete without a visit to a Champagne house and the first visit of the morning is to the famous Champagne Pommery. You will enjoy a guided tour of their Champagne cellars which are UNESCO World Heritage classified. Finish the visit in style with two champagne tastings.
It's time for a short break at a viewpoint on the elegant Montagne de Reims vineyards where your expert guide will tell you about the special and unique features of the Champagne region and its terroir. Have you ever wondered "Why are Champagne vines planted on hillsides?", "Why is Champagne subsoil made out of such pure chalk?", or "Why does Champagne only come from the Champagne region?", well do not fear, your questions will all be answered by your guide who is an expert on the Champagne region.
Your morning will end with a tour of a 2nd Champagne house and its cellar. Having visited the famous Pommery, it's now time to discover a family-run Champagne house. Your guide will take you on a tour of the traditional press which is still in use today and the vat room whilst telling you all about the traditional Champagne method. After your tour is complete you'll enjoy a Champagne tasting of several of their own Champagnes, acquiring tasting knowledge and expertise as you drink these rare champagnes!
