Explore Saint-Rémy, Les Baux de Provence & Arles
Join your friendly local A la Francaise guide at 8am in Marseille and set off for a true immersion into the culture of Provence. Your day tour will take you to three of Provence's most famous towns: Saint-Rémy, Les Baux de Provence and Arles!
Arriving at your first stop of the day in Saint-Remy you'll see the famous Roman monuments and discover the old town. You will also have the opportunity to visit the mental hospital where Vincent Van Gogh stayed for some time. On Wednesdays the local market is open with its colourful stalls and typical Provencal aromas... A great experience!
Travelling on through the Crau Plain, your tour leads you to the Grand Rhône River bank where the ancient UNESCO World Heritage city of Arles is located.
Your guide will take you on a tour of the city to visit many of the sites painted by Van Gogh. See the Roman remains such as the amphitheatre and theatre, Saint-Trophime church (a carved portal from the 12th century), the Forum Square where the statue of the Provencal poet Frédéric Mistral stands, as well as the Hôtel-Dieu (former charity hospital) and Van Gogh’s Café.
On Saturdays you can also enjoy the Provencal market in Arles.
During your free time for lunch (not included), admire the village of Les Baux de Provence which has kept its medieval layout of narrow streets and the ruins of its castle. You will have the option of purchasing tickets to the light and sound show featuring the Dutch Painters: from Vermeer to Van Gogh at Les Carrières de Lumières.
After your visit of Les Baux de Provence it will be time to return to Marseilles where you will arrive at 6.30pm.
Please note:
As the markets take place in the morning only, the order of the sites visited will be adapted accordingly: Saint Rémy in the morning on Wednesday and Arles in the morning on Saturdays.
Entrance fees for monuments and museums are not included in the price.
On certain days, a quick drive through Aix-en-Provence to pick up and drop off passengers may be included.
